NSHM in its determination to provide team-designed, team-delivered, experience-based, community-based, applied learning endeavored to create this unique platform and christened it as NSHM CENTRE FOR INNOVATION & INCUBATION. This Centre inspires, motivates and cultivates the innate human curiosity to bring out the genius in our students taking them ahead on the path of creation and innovation.
To commemorate the 88th Birthday of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam the Centre had organised a 5 day Innovation Week last year from 15-19th October. Prof.(Dr.) Sudipto Sarkar HOD Mechanical Engineering and Dean International Tie-Ups and Accredation NSET and Prof Biswajit Mondal, SPOC NSHM Institute of Health Sciences were the key speakers on the occasion who shared their valuable ideas and thoughts on the life and works of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. The students from different portals were present during this inaugural session who seemed to gain immensely from the speeches. The portal heads also introduced the NSHM CENTRE FOR INNOVATION & INCUBATION to the students and shared its importance in nourishing the raw ideas of technology and innovation among young minds.
On the 2nd day there was a Panel Discussion where Prof.(Dr.) Marisha McAuliffe, Chief-Academics and Quality Systems, NSHM Knowledge Campus Kolkata & Durgapur, Prof. (Dr.)Milind, Principal NSTHM, Prof.( Dr.) Sudipto Sarkar HOD Mechanical Engineering and Dean International Tie-Ups and Accredation NSET, Prof Biswajit Mondal, SPOC NSHM Institute of Health Sciences, Dr. Rima Barik, Assistant Professor Mathematics, Dr. Debapriya Goswami, Assistant Professor English, Dr. Arun Upadhayay, Associate Professor Management, Prof Prabal Chakraborty, Assistant Professor Management, were the speakers of the panel discussion and Prof Ujjaini Sinha Roy advocated as moderator of this discussion.
On the3rd Day an awareness speech on Water and Plastic Substitution given by Prof. Bipasha Mridha Ghosh and Prof. Arghya Chakraborty. Another presentation highlighted General behavioural aspects to control Plastic and Water uses.
On the4th Day an essay writing competition was conducted by NSHM Centre for Language & Communication. Enthusiastic student participants ignited their minds on the topics of –‘APJ Kalam & His Vision for India -2020’ and ‘How does Shri APJ Kalam ignite the young minds in 2020’.
The fifth day of the Innovation week received stupendous response from the students. Mr. Kaustav Majumdar, Mentor and Head: NSHM Center for Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship, addressed the students and faculty members where he elaborated upon the upcoming plans of the center. Following Mr. Majumdar, the students were addressed by Mr. Aaquib Hussain, Chief Dreamer and Director at I&We_WeC Minds who talked about start-ups and innovation. The second segment was a book reading session, where Dr. Milind, Dr Sudipto Sarkar and Mr. Sabyasachi Chakraborty read from and discussed relevant excerpts from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam & 39’s books. The students got to learn about the journey of the Missile Man towards the epitome of success from a very humble background. A lot of students gained inspiration from this session. The programme ended with an interaction between Mr. Kaustav Majumdar and the faculty members on the course of action of the centre.
