Overview

Top engineering colleges in India offer B. Tech in Civil Engineering as the demand for skilled civil engineers is higher than ever to design and build infrastructure projects. The Department of Civil Engineering at NSHM has been set up with a vision of producing high quality technical manpower needed by industry, R&D organizations and academic Institutions. The departmental activities embrace Planning, Design, Construction and Management.

NSHM Durgapur is one of the best colleges in West Bengal to offer 4-year degree programme in B. Tech. in Civil Engineering where the academic activities of the Department lay emphasis on in-depth understanding of fundamental principles, development of creative ability to handle the challenges of Civil Engineering and the analytical ability to solve problems, which are interdisciplinary in nature. The Department also encourages its student to engage in extracurricular and co-curricular activities, essential for development, nurturing of team spirit and developing organizational skills. A student pursuing B. Tech. degree in Civil Engineering can join the industry or pursue further specialisation in their favourite subject. Students pursuing Civil Engineering can choose their careers in various fields ranging from defence to industrial development, social welfare to economic growth.

Programme Education Objective

  • Prepare the students with knowledge and skills of structural, geotechnical, and transportation engineering for superior vocations and careers as civil engineer in planning, regional development, construction, water resources management, etc. in diverse and multi-disciplinary settings.
  • Enable them to pursue lifelong learning in fundamental areas related to structural analysis, design of RC and Steel structures, soil mechanics, highway and environmental engineering, etc. and will be able to contribute towards sustainable development.

Career Opportunities

According to a research report from Global Market Insights, the market size for civil engineers is expected to grow to 12 trillion USD by 2025. Both in public and private sector, there are immense job opportunities for Civil Engineering graduates. Some of the job roles are:

  • Building control surveyor
  • CAD technician
  • Site engineer
  • Design engineer
  • Rural & urban transport engineer
  • Structural engineer
  • Water engineer
  • Contracting civil engineer
