NSHM Knowledge Campus Empowering Future Engineers: AICTE Launches YASHASVI Scheme 2024
Introduction :
The launch of the “Young Achievers Scholarship and Holistic Academic Skills Venture Initiative” (YASHASVI) Scheme 2024 by the All India Council For Technical Education (AICTE) marks a significant milestone in India’s engineering education landscape. This pioneering initiative, unveiled on June 07 in New Delhi, aims to empower students pursuing degrees and diplomas in critical engineering disciplines such as Civil, Chemical, Electrical, Electronics, and Mechanical Engineering (CCEEM).
Leadership and Vision :
Led by AICTE Chairman, Professor T.G. Sitharam, and supported by Vice Chairman Dr. Abhay Jere and Member Secretary Professor Rajive Kumar, the YASHASVI Scheme seeks to bolster India’s core engineering sector, essential for the nation’s manufacturing industries. Professor Sitharam rightly emphasizes, “The core engineering sector has to play a major role in the development of India,” highlighting the initiative’s potential to position India as a global leader in technology and innovation.
Merit-Based Eligibility :
Merit-based eligibility criteria ensure inclusivity and excellence, with 12th-grade qualifications for degree students and 10th-grade qualifications for diploma students serving as benchmarks. Candidates must be admitted to the first year of a Degree/ Diploma course in any AICTE-approved institution. Renewal of scholarships mandates the submission of passing certificates or marksheets, along with a letter from the institution’s head, fostering continued academic excellence and accountability. In the event of the same percentiles, ties for Degree Level Students will be resolved based on the percentage of marks in the 12th examination, and if still tied, by age, with the elder candidate ranked higher. For Diploma Level Students, ties will be resolved based on the percentage of marks in the 10th examination, followed by age if necessary.
Application Process :
The application process for the YASHASVI scholarship is invited annually through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP), ensuring accessibility and transparency. After the application process prospective candidates are encouraged to visit the AICTE website to keep a track of notices providing information and application guidelines, fostering widespread participation and engagement.
Scholarship Provision :
Central to the YASHASVI Scheme is the provision of scholarships, benefiting 5,000 students annually, with an equitable distribution between degree and diploma students. Degree students stand to receive Rs. 18,000 per year for up to four years, while diploma students will receive Rs. 12,000 per year for up to three years. These scholarships, disbursed directly to students through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), serve as a catalyst for realizing academic aspirations and alleviating financial barriers.
Terms and Conditions :
The scholarship scheme entails several key points for eligible candidates. Firstly, there should not be a gap of more than 2 years between the passing of the qualifying examination and admission to a degree/diploma course. Secondly, applications are invited once a year through the National e-Scholarship Portal. Thirdly, if a student qualifies in both the reserved and general category merit lists, they will be categorized under the general category. Incomplete applications are rejected, and only verified ones are considered for scholarship awards. Dropping out in subsequent years renders a candidate ineligible for further scholarships. Shifting from core engineering branches forfeits eligibility and requires a refund of the scholarship amount. Receiving financial assistance from any other source during the course results in scholarship discontinuation and refund. The scheme will be implemented and monitored by AICTE. For converting Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) to percentage multiplying factor of 9.5 i.e. CGPA X 9.5 will yield the percentage. If both CGPA and total marks are provided on the mark sheet, the total marks will be considered. If grades such as A1, A2, B1, B2, etc., are given on the mark sheet, they will first be converted into CGPA, and then the average CGPA will be calculated. This average CGPA will then be converted into a percentage using the multiplying factor 9.5. Provisional shortlists are published on the AICTE website, and grievances must be raised within a month. Queries about non-payment due to incorrect account numbers are entertained for up to six months from the publication of the merit list.
