Stories are the oldest forms and tools that communities, societies, and cultures use to create narratives using beliefs, values, traditions, and myths. As stories are socio-psychic representations based on shared symbols, narratives, and meanings, storytelling has also been at the heart of ‘cultural identity’ and ‘social life.’ ‘Transmedia storytelling’ is the emerging practice of creating, sharing, and participating in an interconnected ‘story experience’ via ‘storytelling collaborations’ using old and the new media platforms - for news, entertainment, advertising, and also for social change. Thus, transmedia storytelling in the age of nonstop global converged media is the remediation of the narrative worlds, emerging technologies, and global audiences.

National Media Conference on ‘Transmedia, media narratives, performance and contemporary storytelling is part of the three-day KOLKATA MEDIA SUMMIT ™, powered by NSHM Knowledge Campus and hosted by NSHM School of Media & Communication in partnerships with Loreto College, Kolkata and Asian Media Information and Communication Centre (AMIC) – Asia aims to discuss evolving trends in the transmedia narrative, performative, and storytelling practices in contemporary society.

The conference seeks to bring together academicians, researchers, and media practitioners from across the fields of journalism, advertising, public relations, film, music, literature, culture studies and allied spheres. The conference aims to focus on academic paper presentations, photo narratives, digital installations, multimedia and audio-visual material exploring the theme against a larger contemporaneity of global politics, economy, business, new media convergence cultures and its socio-cultural implications.

Academicians, research scholars, industry professionals, and postgraduate students are invited to contribute their research papers at the NSMC National Media Conference to share their research findings and ideas with the academic and industry experts. Selected papers will be published in Media Asia & Asian Journal of Communication- Journals of the Asian Media Information and Communication Centre (AMIC).
